Windows 7 Support Has Ended
As we noted early last year, Microsoft were stopping support for Windows 7. That day has come and gone, and as from Tuesday 14th January 2020, Windows 7 users will no longer receive the important security updates that help protect their computers. Microsoft have made this decision so they can focus on newer technologies.
What does it mean for you? Well, if you are still running Windows 7 on your computer, you will need to act sooner rather than later.
What Are The Risks?
All computers running Windows 7 will still continue to function, but they will become less and less secure. If hackers find any new flaws in Windows 7, Microsoft will not fix them. Without software and security updates, Windows 7 machines are more likely to be infected with viruses and malware, Microsoft wrote on its website.
Hackers use malware to invade, damage or even completely disable computers. They can steal personal and financial data and also spy on users without their knowledge. In the past, they have held companies to ransom until a payment is made.
What Should You Do Now?
As we mentioned, your Windows 7 computer will still work and if you use the computer offline, you don’t need to do anything.
The best way for you to stay secure online, is to upgrade to Windows 10. It is possible to install Windows 10 on older PC’s, but Microsoft warns that it may not run smoothly.
At KCS, we have been updating and upgrading customers and clients machines in preparation for the Windows 7 armageddon for the last couple of months. As you can imagine, our workshop has a bit of a queue with desktops and laptops now that the date has passed.
