Windows 10 Update Breaks Printer Functionality

Microsoft have released a slew of updates recently, as they try to patch vulnerabilities that put users at risk.

To mitigate the problems, Microsoft have advised users to install all the updates as soon as they are available. This has worked for many users, but a number of systems are still having problems.

The Windows 10 1903 KB4522016 Cumulative Update has a rather bad side effect of breaking Windows’ printing functionality. The issue itself is caused by the print spooler service quiting unexpectedly. On the bright side of this, not every user with Windows 10 installed on their computers will experience the problem.

Microsoft’s solution to the issue for now is the timeless classic “turn it off and back on again”. This forces a re-connection between the printer and the computer. Another patch to permanently fix this issue should be released soon.
