Recently, a joint statement was released by the UK’s National Crime Security Centre (NCSC), the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) regarding malicious activity carried out by the Russian Government. This has led to a heightened awareness at KCS, and we have added checks for signs of tampering as part of our regular checks for contract customers. In addition, where appropriate we are contacting customers to arrange updates to close vulnerabilities currently being exploited by these hacking groups.
Unfortunately, some support customers have been exposed, and we are now prioritising updates for these companies.
Some companies have taken this opportunity to upgrade their security infrastructure with a new Next Generation Firewall (NGFW). NGFW units provide a full suite of protection technologies, including some services once restricted to large enterprises, such as Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), Web Filtering and on device Anti Virus. At KCS, we now run a Fortigate NGFW and have been impressed with the feature set that it provides at a reasonable price point.

For more information on Next Generation Firewalls and the benefits they offer, see the link below. If you like more information on what KCS can provide, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
KCS are in the process of contacting all SLA customers to audit and update their equipment. If you’d like us to review your router/firewall, please send an email to email@example.com with the subject ‘Router Exploit Audit’ and we’ll get in touch to arrange the work.
