Keswick’s leading outdoor equipment specialist, George Fisher is set to dramatically increase website traffic with their new webcam.
The George Fisher webcam has always been very popular – Paul Cheshire of George Fisher Digital Merchandising reports that it has historically attracted 20% of their website hits. However, the analog webcam, which has served virtually since the turn of the century lacks the clarity and sharpness of more up to date units and has of late become unreliable – prompting flurries of emails whenever offline!
George Fisher approached KCS for assistance with the upgrade to a new camera. Having recently installed a new outdoor webcam at Derwent Water Marina, we were able to recommend a similar indoor model. KCS managed the project throughout; it required the skills of our engineering and web departments, as well as liaison with George Fisher personnel and their web designers.
After initial setup and configuration in the KCS workshop the new Axis camera was installed in the attic at the top of George Fisher’s famous façade. You can see it through the circular window, just beneath the apex, pointing stoically towards Skiddaw. Once the webcam was connected to the internal network the KCS web team took over and configured and optimized the http stream to the George Fisher’s website.
All in all, the project was completed without any serious issues although some woodworking skills were unexpectedly required in the loft! You can judge the results for yourself. The webcam is optimized for viewing in all currently supported browsers – Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox. To view the live stream, please visit George Fisher’s webcam page
If you would like to host your own webcam, KCS would be happy to discuss the options with you.
