Cookie consent and complying with the GDPR

The one question we have received most, regarding GDPR and cookies is… “My website doesn’t process personal data, but I use Google Analytics, Mailchimp, social media buttons, Salesforce etc. Do I need a cookie consent?”

All of the websites that KCS develop and build have Google Analytics installed so we can advise on SEO tips and digital media campaigns.

They deposit cookies on your user’s browsers as they visit your website.

You are responsible for protecting your website users and for giving them clear information and choice about how their data is being used, both by you and by third parties in use on your website.

It is therefore required that you do have a proper and GDPR compliant cookie policy and cookie consent.

As well as having a GDPR complaint cookie and consent policy, you also need to have an applicable Privacy Policy on your website.

The privacy policy should clearly state what data you will hold, for what purpose and how long you intend to hold it, similar to this example (provided courtesy of the Keswick Tourism Association).

Please get in touch if this is something you would like assistance with this. The KCS Webs team can add your privacy policy and cookie consent to your website. It generally takes between 30 – 60 minutes to complete (billable in 15 minute increments).
